ENNISCORTHY MART
Growing up in Clare as a child I would regularly visit the local livestock Mart with my Grandfather.
Not only does the Mart facilitate the buying and selling of livestock, it also forms an important part of the local community. It’s as much a social hub as a place of business for farmers and provides a welcome respite from an otherwise solitary working life. The following photographs were taken over two mornings at the Enniscorthy Mart in co. Wexford. Those childhood memories with my grandfather were front and centre in my mind as I walked around. I photographed much of what I saw from the vantage point of a child and also from the same places in the bidding rings that my grandfather would have sat back in the Mart in Co. Clare . This photo essay is part of an ongoing project on Irish Agriculture.
